National Cherry Blossom Festival 100th Anniversary
FotoDC, in conjunction with the National Cherry Blossom Festival, is sponsoring the second annual Photography Contest to honor the 100-year anniversary of the gift of trees; D.C. will be "in the pink" as the entire city focuses on the billowy beauty of our beloved "state" flower. So mark your calendars. Watch the weather. Grab your camera, wake up your imagination, and see The Blossoms in a bold new way. Then enter the contest...your work just might be the pink of perfection!
From bountiful blossoms to colorful celebrations, the Cherry Blossom Festival provides endless inspiration...and the Photo Contest provides YOU with the rare opportunity to watch your work blossom before thousands of appreciative residents and visitors. Talk about exposure!
JUDGES
A distinguished panel of judges comprised of Irene Owsley, Peter Garfield, and Stacy Gold, will select outstanding work that will be announced and recognized just after the close of the National Cherry Blossom Festival with a celebration of the winners at a special event.
AWARDS
Best in show: $500 + Photoshop World Prize Package (Valued at $1,000)
First Prize: $300 and a one year subscription to the National Association of Photoshop Professionals to First Place Winner of Each Category
Second Prize: $200 to Second Place Winner of Each Category
Third Prize: $100 to Second Place Winner of Each Category
Series Winner Prize: $300 to a Series Winner in Each Category
People's Choice: Washington Photo Safari Gift Certificate for (2) half-day workshops
CATEGORIES
With the exception of the Vintage category, all images must have been taken within the last 5 years. Images created via any form of photography will be accepted for consideration (film, digital, mobile phone, and alternative processes), but must be submitted electronically.
LANDSCAPE/NATURE: Scenic photos that show the beauty of blossoms and the trees at and around the Tidal Basin
PEOPLE: Images showing crowds or individuals enjoying and engaging with the cherry blossoms
FESTIVITIES: Action-filled images of the National Cherry Blossom Festival and its relevant events that take place outside the Tidal Basin, such as the Opening Ceremony, Southwest Waterfront Fireworks Festival, National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade, and performances. VINTAGE: Images taken from the 1930 to 12/31/1999. Images can be scanned and moderately retouched.
Single and series entries for each of the four categories.
Winners will recieve cash prizes, exposure on the popular FotoDC website, exhibition and/or projections during the FotoWeek Festival, public exhibition in Crystal City and exposure throughout the Cherry Blossom Festival March 20 - April 27.
